Hello!
Welcome to Jorge's Spanish Lessons. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I was born in Lima, Peru. Spanish is my first language; I also speak English and some Italian.
I love teaching and learning languages. I have been teaching for 31 years. I have taught Spanish as a first language and as a foreign language, EFL (English as a Foreign Language), ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Peruvian Salsa. I have taught in private schools, state schools, colleges and universities in Peru, the UK, Germany and Italy. At the moment I am working at the Spanish Learning Centre in Blackpool, England.
The next page called "Spanish Lessons Taught in English" is a self-contained beginners' course that you can follow even if you don't attend my lessons or live in Blackpool. If your aim is to sound like a native Spanish speaker, I would advise you to also watch lessons 6-15 in which I teach how to pronounce individual Spanish phonemes and compare them and contrast them to their English equivalents. The emphasis is on the points of articulation; in some cases I will give you exercises for you to practise at home. You will find the missing lessons (6th lesson- 15th lesson)on my YouTube channel. It is called "British English&Peruvian Salsa Lessons. I have a number of playlists, but the one you need is called "Jorge's Free Spanish Lessons".
I have created this website to provide extra support to my students at the Spanish Learning Centre but I think that the videos can be useful to anyone who is learning Spanish anywhere in the world.
As most of my students go on holiday to Spain or have properties in Spain, I teach them Castilian Spanish and in most videos I speak as people do in Spain. But my videos will also be suitable for someone who is planning to visit Latin America.
The main difference between Castilian and Latin American Spanish is the pronunciation of the letters "Z" and "C" (before E or I). In Spain they are pronounced as a "th" in "thin"; in Latin America they are pronounced like the "S" in "yes".
Thank you.
